My maiden name is Boerner, which was pronounced Burner by my grandparents and Borner by my parents. Since I am working on my family history, I am really curious about your reply. What causes you to believe there is a great mystery? I would love to know if there is something I should be looking for - other than the ususal names, places and dates. My family originally settled in Jersey City, NJ, by the way.
