Ethel Boer, 100, of Sheldon, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Oak Park Care Center of Sheldon. Born Aug. 12, 1901, in Hospers, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred and Alice Siersma Holtrop. She married Jacob Boer of Doon, Iowa, on July 20, 1924, in Doon. He died Feb. 3, 1972. She grew up on the family farm in Doon. In 1943, she moved with his family to a farm near Sheldon, Iowa. She moved into the Christian Retirement Home of Sheldon in 1985. In 1996, she moved to the Oak Park Care Center of Sheldon. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon, where she was active in the Golden Hour Circle and the Christian School Auxiliary. Surviving her are seven sons, Fred (Gerry) Boer, Sanborn, Iowa, Henry (Corynna) Boer, Hudsonville, Mich., Jeen (Jo) Boer, Sheldon, Iowa, Ed (Fran) Boer, Byron Center, Mich., Harlon (Joan) Boer, Sheldon, Iowa, Dale (Karen) Boer, Sheldon, Iowa; three daughters, Myrtle Bootsma, Sheldon, Iowa, Alvina (Gary) Hiemstra, George, Iowa, Phyllis (Andy) Steensma, Grand Rapids, Mich.; one sister, Tena Klein, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many more relatives and friends. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. at Sheldon Funeral Service. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. with the Rev. John Vermeer officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon.
