"The following is what was told to me by Gyry's great-granddaughter, who lives in Norway.
Gyry Nilsdotter Boen was born in Tinn, Norway on Aug. 8, 1838 to Nils Torgeirsson Espeland and Gunhild Oysteinsdotter Berge.
On Jul. 12, 1860 she married Svein Kittilsson Lisland. They moved to Boen in 1869 (very confusing with people changing their names when they moved farms).
Gyri and Svein had these children;
Anne born in 1861 (married and Overland and went to USA in 1898).
Gunhild born in 1862.
Kjetil born in 1864 (went to USA in 1889).
Nils born in 1865 (went to USA in 1891).
Hans born in 1867 (stayed in Norway).
Gyry born in 1869 (went to USA in 1891).
Gro born in 1871.
Aaste born on May 25, 1873 (renamed Alice after coming to USA).
Birgit born on Sep. 27, 1875 (renamed Bertha after coming to USA).
Ola born in 1878.
Oystein born in 1882 (renamed Austin).(*)
Gyry attained the age of 73 years, 7 months and 18 days."

About Austin Garland BOEN (1925-1997)-at Find a grave:
"Austin was born in Colton on May 2, 1925, to Austin and Nellie (Lien) Boen. Following graduation from Colton High School in 1942, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad and the ammunition depot in Skull Valley, Utah. In 1943 he joined the Navy. He received radio training at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and served 2 years in the South Pacific as a radioman. In 1946 Austin worked at Douglas Aircraft as a radio electrician. Later that year he returned to Colton and started Boen's Cafe which he operated with his mother for 12 years until 1958. On April 15, 1951, he went to work for L.J. Johnson Lumber Company. On April 1, 1957, he bought the lumberyard, which he operated for 40 years.
Austin served on the Volunteer Fire Dept. for 25 years, the school board for 10 years, and was a past director of the Northwest Lumbermen's Association. He was a charter member of the Allied Midwest Merchandisers Inc., Colton Lions Club, Lots of Home Inc., Community Housing Inc., and the Colton Are Development Corp. He is past Vice President of Community Housing, director for the Area Development Corp., and also a member of the Minnehaha County and Colton City Zoning and Planning Boards. He was a 50 consecutive year member of the Henry T. Berdahl American Legion Post #206 and a member of the Colton Commercial Club.
Survivors include: his wife Ardys of Colton; three sons, Scott of Aurora, CO., Kent of Sioux Falls and Michael of Colton; five daughters; Virginia Huwe of Colton, Andrea McGee of Topeka, KS, Janice Kappelman of Rapids City, Roxanne Hamilton of Plymouth, MN, and Renee Boen of Sturgis: one brother Donald Boen of Sioux Falls; three sisters; Audrey Davis of Colton, Delores Rahrer of Lakeland, FL, and Gloria Edwards of Pickstown; nineteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Austin was preceded in death by his parents two brothers, Jerome, Roger and one sister Mildred Brown."
