Brenda, It's taken me quite a while but I finally found the maiden name of Eliza Jane McLelland, the mother of James Thomas McLelland. She was a Gillespie. Born in 1824 in possibly Dallas Co., AL. Her parents were Thomas Gillespie and Sallie Gillespie (that's right both Gillespies). Her parents were James Gillespie and Elizabeth Finley. The Gillespies had lived in Blount Co., TN before moving to AL, then to LA and on to Hunt Co., TX by 1853. Sally, the mother of Eliza moved to Uvalde TX and was living with her son Thomas in I think 1860. Will keep you posted if I turn up anything more. Molly Graham Welch
