My grandfather was Robert Ira Bodkin, from Humbolt, Tennesee. My grandfather told me his mother's name was Sara Bell, she died when he was young, and he was adopted by a family named Bodkin. Also, my grandfathers name was changed to Bodkins when he joined the Army. Somebody added an "S", and so he kept it that way to keep things simple. He moved to Illinois to work on the railroad, I'm not sure when however. I hope this is helpful.
