Here are my notes on this individual, but it is important to note that he spells his name BODEY after his childhood. The immigrant (Friedrich Bode) may have spelled it the old, German way all his life until he died in 1818, but the children all spelled it BODEY from early life onward. A few descendants, in northeastern Ohio mainly, spell it Boday, with an 'a'.
My notes on Henry:
Saint Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church Shenandoah, VA. , Records: ‘Heinrich b. 28 Feb. 1802bapt. May 24, 1802 parents, Friedrich Bodey and his wife Barbara; sponsors Philip Ditz and his wife Catalina’; 1830 census: 7-member family; 1823 & 1828 sells land in VA from OH; wife’s census name “Susan, Sarah” — present Putnam Co., OH, 1840 & 50 censuses: between 1840 & 1850 censuses, besides parents, Adam, Martin, Mary & Henry, there are 2 males, born 1820/1825, 1 male born 1835/1840 & 1 female, born 1825/1830 and 1 female born 1835/1840 missing; D.K.M. Moore 20-XI-92 proposes moved in years “post-1850 to ‘greener pastures’”; 1850 Putnam Co. (Jackson township) OH census [p. 74B]: age 48, b. VA; Walter Boday to L. Ellingham [1992]: ‘Heinrich (Henry) Bodey, born 28th day of Hornung (Feb.) 1802; baptized 24 Mar 1802 [St. Peters Evangelical church, Rockingham Co., VA]; sponsors, Phillip Ditz and his wife Catarina’; marriage ‘17 Aug 1821 at Urbana, OH’ but Champaign Co., OH Marriage Index gives date ‘7 Aug 1821’; Margery Graham to L. Ellingham [26-II-2002]: ‘Deaths … & Miscellaneous from the “Kalida Venture”, p.38: “absconding debtors (29 Apr 1853) Henry Body.” This might be Henry moving west…’; Sandi Evilsizer Koscak to L. Ellingham [1-IX-2003]: ‘1830 Champaign Co, Johnson, OH census: Henry Bodey 120010-100011’
Note that the last we know of him is in Ohio in an 1850 census, and possibly in 1853 as a debtor. (see notes above). If you have information that THIS PARTICULAR henry Bodey went to Springfield, Illinois, I would of course like to know. I have a lot on the children. His wife was Susanna Comer, about whom I knowbit as well.
