well, it's been awhile, but back in school a teacher showed me a book of name origins. under the name bocanegra, it read that it was the name of a knight who rode from italy, to france and then into spain before voyaging across the sea to the americas.in an age when one was given a name based upon his trade or alot of times, his demeanor, his was that of an ill-tempered,bad-mouthed individual.thus given the name which described basically, his personallity. this is what the book read, and that he was the first recorded bocanegra in the 14th. centiry. this is what i remember. it is much the same as when native american indians used the name "fork toungue" to describe a person with a bad mouth.my friend's name was carrizales, and his read that his ancestors name was given to them because they were people who lived by the "carrizos", or reeds by the river.pretty interesting.
