Hello: I'm reviewing some notes and I'd like to put forth an idea regarding a possible time frame for Elizabeth Spencer Bobo's birth year that is earlier than generally supposed. I think she may have been born around 1670 rather than a later date of ca. 1682 as many genealogies suggest. I would appreciate your feedback. The wording of the crucial record dated 20th day of Feb. 1702/3 of the grant of land from Elizabeth White to her sons, Thomas and James, positively identifies her as the daughter of Thomas Spencer and widow of James White. . She calls her sons “my two children” which suggests that they were minors . She gives Thomas 1,300 lbs. tobacco and cash, and a horse to be paid when he attains 21 years . She gives James 1,300 lbs. tobacco and cash, and a horse; plus 100 acres she used to live on: “I give unto my Sonn James White thirteen hundred pounds of Tobacco and Cash and one bay mare… also I give him one hundred acres of Land it being part of the Land I lived upon adjoyning upon Joseph Cockrum and Samuel Williams. It being part of Two hundred acres of Land given mee by my father Thomas Spencer of King and Queen County by will on my widdowhood unto the Said James White and his heirs Law fully begotten for Ninety nine Yeares and that the Tobo & Money be paid to him at the age of Twenty one Yeares…etc” . Since the land was "given me by my father...by will.." doesn't this prove that he had a will and was dead before 1703? So neither of Elizabeth's sons had attained the age of 21 years at the time of the writing of the February 19, 1702/1703 deed, However, I believe they were teenagers and that James White was old enough and considered a responsible male (at least 16) when he and his mother received land that fall for transporting 5 people into the colony. Surely, this is James, son of Elizabeth: James White & Elizabeth Bubboe, late Elizabeth White, 250 acs., King Wm. Co.; bet. the Herring Creeks get. by run of the Middle Herring Cr. about 1/4 of a mile below Bubboe's house, along run of the Dividing Br., 23 Oct. 1703, p. 552. Trans. of 5 pers: By estimating 1670 as her birth year, Elizabeth would have been about 33 years old in 1703; still young enough to have a child with Gabriel Bobo. Has anyone been able to chart the descendants of Thomas and James White? Caroline Co., VA Order Book 1732-1740, p. 462: This is the proof that Spencer's (1st) wife was Jane: Spencer Bobo, Jane Bobo, she being first privately examined, and Thomas White acknowledge their deed and livery and seizin and receipt to Richard George on December 9, 1737. [Thomas White was Spencer's half-brother] Notify Administrator about this message?
