I have a marriage record for my grandfather's sister, Julia Manson, to Prof Ernest G Bobbitt in Hardeman Co, TN, in 1907. Julia is known to be remarried by 1920, so I assume Ernest died, but maybe not.
I finally last night found an Ernest Bobbitt in the 1900 census, 20 yo living in Fayette Co, which is adjacent to Hardeman, so I think this may be he. He is living in the household of Samuel B Bobbitt and listed as his nephew. Also there is Sarah O, Samuel's mother. If you go back to the 1880 census, she has no children old enough to be Samuel's father, so that casts doubt on the nephew label, but it does appear he is likely orphaned, as there are other children in other Bobbitt households who also appear to be orphaned as though they may have "parceled them out" to other members of the family when their parents died.
If anyone has any additional info on the Fayette Co, TN Bobbitts, who may have died in the late 1800's leaving orphans, or Ernest in particular, please contact me.
