Confusion on John Richard Bobbitt
Posted by: Gerald Klima (ID *****9450) Date: August 20, 2004 at 06:46:50

I have conflicting information, can anyone help?

I have two John Richard Bobbitt's.

John Richard #1 was born in 1725 in Bertie County North Carolina and died in November 1791 in Warren County North Carolina. He married Amy Alston in 1743 and they had 11 children: Drury, Winnie, Stephan Erasmus, John Richard Jr., Alston, Isham Drury, Randolf, Sally, William and Amy. JR#1 is the son of William Bobbit (1704-1769) and Amy Bennett (b 1705)

John Richard #2 was born in 1726 in Virginia and died in 1792 in Warren County North Carolina. He married Amy Shearin in 1753 in Granville County, North Carolina and they had seven children: Sally, Drury, John, Randolph, Winnie, James, and Isham Drury. JR#2 is the son of Lewis L Bobbitt (1703-1769) and Elizabth Moore (b1709)

I guess this is a classic example of what can happen when you take information online and don't verify all of your facts. To me these must be the same person or at very least I have mixed some information between the two. It could be that John Richard married twice and I have the children mixed, but I have two different sets of parents for him.

I am a Bobbitt descendant, not of John Richard (either one) but of William.
