Here is another possibility for the origins of the surname Bobbitt. This information was sent to me by a couple in the UK who study surnames in order to research coats of arms:

According to references in; Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames by C.W. Bardsley, and Welsh Surnames by T.J. Morgan and Prys Morgan.

The name BOBBITT is a variant of the Welsh name BOBYDD, which in turn is derived from the Welsh name POBYDD, with the first recorded instance being in 1406.
