James Dewitt was born Aug 19, 1852 in Orange Co, NC,buried April 29, 1914 at New Bethel Methodist Church, Rougemont, NC son of Green & Durina(Wagner) Bobbitt. His siblngs were Nathaniel T. Jul 9, 1857- Oct 29, 1925, Annie Aug 18, 1853 -July 30, 1903, John Wesley July 27, 1862 - May 5, 1927, Thadious Vestter 1867- 1928. May have been a Sarah Jane but not confirmed.
He married Malinda Ann Gates on in Person Co, NC 7/15/1975.
Their children; Ella L May 1, 1876 - Nov 29, 1940
Emma E. Sept 11, 1878
David L. March 15, 1881 - June 22, 1959
Pattie H. July 31, 1884 - Nov 26, 1979
James Doke Jan 6, 1887 - June 8, 1963 (this is my husbands grandfather)
Fannie B. May 9, 1889
Sarah J March 13, 1891
Royal G. Nov 3, 1894 - Jan 2, 1958
Frank Branson April 1, 1899 - Jan 29, 1977.
Are you related to James Dewitt? I have found the family is very large and am just now finding all the branches of the family.

Green Bobbitt's house is still standing in Person/Durham Co. It is located in a present day rock quarry but not harmed. It is very close to the New Bethel Methodist Church. We have been fortunate enough to have been inside of it.
