In the July term, 1825 of the Dickson County TN Court minutes, a petition was filed by the widow of a fellow I call Raccoon Creek John DICKSON. John died ca. 1822.

In that 1825 petition "James BOATRIGHT and his wife" are named amoung the heirs of Raccoon Creek John DICKSON. It is the only place I've found the name James BOATRIGHT mentioned.

After considerable research that I will not detail here, I've concluded that Raccoon Creek John DICKSON's daughter, Margaret DICKSON married a David COWAN ca. 1815-1818. They were living in Humphreys Co. TN in 1820 with two young sons.

Sometime between 1820 and July 1825, David died. Margaret purchased items at the sale of the estate of her father in a Dickson Co. record filed in January, 1823. She was shown at that time as Margaret COWAN.

Then, sometime betweeen January, 1823 and July 1825 Margaret remarried James BOATRIGHT....then they disappear.

In 1832 Margaret's brother, James W. DICKSON, was named guardian of the 3 minor heirs (John, Jane, & Martha) of David COWAN and Margaret. I suspect Margaret had just died. I wonder if James BOATRIGHT was also deceased by 1832.

In an 1842 Dickson County Court record, the three children of David COWAN and Margaret DICKSON are again named. John P. COWAN was living in MS, Jane COWAN was living in Montgomery Co. TN and Martha COWAN was living in TX.

If anyone has any leads on this family (especially James BOATRIGHT) please advise.

Russ James of Houston Co. TN.
