Edwin Gabriel Bly, was born in Hancock Co. OH, 17 Feb. 1834, son of Jacob Bly and Sophia [Eckhart] Bly and died in Hancock Co. OH, 10 Jan. 1913. He married twice. First to Mary Jane King, who died 29 Aug. 1870. They had Ephraim R. Bly, b. 1866, and Margaret, b. 25 Aug. 1870 (her mother died three days later). Edwin then married Minna Vent and had Nellie Emma Sophia, b. 25 May 1872, Frederick, b. Apr. 1874, George Lewis, b. 1 June 1877, and Matilda, (Tillie) b. July 1882.
Edwin's father, Jacob Bly, was born in Hagerstown, MD, 12 Apr. 1777, son of Rudolph Bly and Barbara [Teibele-Dibely] Bly (in German the name was Bley). Jacob Bly married Sophia Eckart in Fairfield Co. OH, 15 Mar. 1810 and later moved to Hancock Co. OH, where he died 11 May 1862.
Rudolph Bly (Bley) was born in 1746 in Rumbach Germany, either son of Adam Bley or Johannes (John) Bley, both of whom were in Frederick Co. MD by the 1750s. Rudolph moved to Brook Co. VA (now W.VA) on the Ohio River near Wheeling in the 1790s and died there in 1809.
