Father & Mother Bluhm came to USA from Germany in 1842. Upon arriving in NY City Mother Bluhm gave birth to a son, George.
They soon settled in Lycoming Co. PA. Probably Armstrong Twp.
Father's name could have been Jacob. Mother's name unknown (Possibaly Maria?)
They had other children besides George namely; Katherine who married a Dennis Vollmer, Mary, Peter, Charles,Philip, and there could have been others. Whether the other children were born in USA or Germany is unknown.
A family story goes that after the death of is wife Father Bluhm (in his 70's) married a woman in her 20's who the family called "Grandmother Kate".
George and at least one of his brothers served in the Civil War. One of his brothers went west to claim land. The spelling of George's name was changed to Bloom when he enlisted. Some of the other Bluhm's also changed the spelling of their name.
George married Sarah Jane Klees of Muncy Twp. and settled in Williamsport on Hepburne Street. But spent about 10 years in Emporium, PA (about 1892 to 1902)before moving back to Hepburne Street. They had 7 children; Philip Jacob who married Lucy Hackenberg and live in Emporium,PA; Margaret Catherine who married Calvin Webster Walize and lived in Rochester,NY; George Henry who died at 4 months; Sarah Jane (Jennie) who married John Elwood Ness and lived in Emporium PA; Charles Klees who married Lydia Howard and live in Camden, NJ; Cora May who married Adam H. Bender and lived in Renove, PA; and Eugene Boyd Campbell who married Beatrice Jane Ellis and lived in Syracuse, NY. Some of these children were married while in Emporium other's while living on Hepburn Street in Williamsport.
I am one of six children of Eugene and Beatrice. We would be very pleased to hear from anyone with knowledge of any of the other Bluhm/Bloom's. Especially the place the elder Bluhm's came from in Germany, their given names, the sirname of Mother Bluhm and where they settled in Lycoming Co., Pa.
