Diana, Burke's might make mistakes but over all I think it's fairly accurate. One point I did question is that he says quite positively that Sir Christoper Blount (Lettice's husband) was the brother of Charles, Lord Mountjoy (Penelope's eventual husband). But another source I consulted claimed that Christopher was more distantly related and 17 years older than Charles. But if he were that older and a brother of Charles, why wasn't he Lord Mountjoy? On the other hand, if Christopher were 17 years older and a cousin or perhaps an illegitimate, this would explain better Lettice's marrying him. She may have been a great beauty in her day but it's difficult to believe a woman of 50 or so marrying a 20 year old, although of course it is possible. My main complaint of Burke's is that, being concerned so with peerages and baronetcies, he does not pay much attention to cadet lines. For instance, the famous Bess Blount was from a line descended from a half brother of the first Lord Mountjoy--as I recall--but this line did not have a title so I have no data on Bess. Some histories claim she was a sister of the Ld. Mountjoy of Henry VIII's day, but I believe Burke here, that she was from a cadet line and only a distant cousin to the Lds Mountjoy. On balance, I generally trust Burke's, though of course it's nice to be able to check him against an independent source.
