I am travelling in Tennessee at the moment but watched THE wedding this morning on CNN. At one time, there was banter among the presenters over top hats.
There are two beautiful illustrated pedigrees of the Blounts in Kinlet church and the Blount Arms (nice pub) at Mawley. The pub sign is of the barry nebully arms of the Blounts with (extraordinarily!) a top hat as the crest, as also on the pedigrees.
As regular readers will know I am pursuing the identity of the wife or mother of Captain James Blount through the two crests shown on an 18th century bookplate.
Prof.Nat Taylor has kindly given me a great deal of advice over the years, including that an individual can choose whatever crest he wishes. But a TOP HAT!?
My thanks also to Rev.Bill Elliot for the information that these pedigrees were produced for the celebration of a wedding - presumably a formal top hat affair.
So, on this lovely day for a wedding, hats off to all you Blount researchers and best wishes to you all.
