I wish I could claim Linney Howell as an inlaw. Unfortunately, the John Blount she married was not my ancestor. All of his marriages took place in FL, GA, and Al. Our John Blount died shortly after he arrived in Texas in 1834. Good luck hunting your folks.

Good luck or bad, there are lots of John Blount/Blunts on genealogical record to make research confusing. So, when hunting mixed blood Indian relatives, it is helpful to know such things as: U.S. Indian policies for the years you are searching, family migration stories, and any names that identify a town or river or other geographic marker. Federal Removal Law 1830 mandated forced Indians to leave their geographic locations. Sometimes Indians took on landmark names from places they left behind. Nostalgia? Who can say?
