Thank you for your quick response. My family actually goes back to the mid 1600's on the Durant, Sutton & Blount lines. My original Durant is George, the grandson of George from England. His daughter Parthenia marries Joseph Sutton; the originator of the Sutton line in NC. At that time, these families are living the Perquimans area and selling and purchasing property with the Blounts. My Blount originator is James Blount born in England dies in Albemarle. His daughter Elizabeth marries John Yelverton who is the originator for that family. Prior to NC, my mother's family is also related to the Blount & Dudley families in England...which naturally are all of the same family.

I've been in contact with someone from The Lost Colony Foundation who is expressing great interest in these families as well as my Hill & Arthur families in particular. There is a thought that perhaps all of these families are intertwined with Native blood due to the means for survival. It has been discovered and believed the Sutton family in particular arrived from New England via a whaling company whose business ran from Cape Cod & Cape Hatteras. The ships would be manned by Natives from Cape Cod who had intermarried & some chose to move to NC and establish new residence. For the Suttons in particular this makes a lot of sense as there is only one child from that family of 13 children that moved to NC & another was left in Chestertown, MD....both major ports at the time.

Another thing I've been making note of is family medical history. Because I live on the Eastern Shore of MD, not far from Chestertown, I have a few friends who are the Suttons from the same family as mine. We share one, possibly two, common hereditary diseases.

I have another Blount connection but haven't been able to completely establish it yet. My 4th great-grandfather was Blount Arthur. It would be assumed being the oldest child perhaps Blount would be his mother's maiden name; not in this case. However; his parents were neighbors to Reading Blount, Sr. The family is still trying to play connect-the-dots on this line.

Would you have the death date of William John Blount? Was this William the Governor in TN?

Look forward to hearing from you!!!

Patty
