“My” Blunts are documented back to the mid-1700’s in Hanover County, Virginia. I can document my lineage back to Page Blunt (Abt. 1730 – 1799). It seems very likely that the Blunt’s before him likely originated in Middlesex and Gloucester counties, Virginia and before that in England. Due the loss of many public records in these areas, this progeny is yet to be documented with certainty. The Blounts of Tidewater Virginia and northeastern North Carolina possess a genealogy that is well documented. There is circumstantial evidence that these two distinct groups of Blounts are related. To the best of my knowledge there is no documented linkage between the two. In theory, two males with documented connection to these separate groups can determine an ancestral connection with a Y-DNA test. The Y-DNA test cost approximately $300 and takes approximately two months to get the results. By comparing the two test results, one should be able to determine 1) if the two individuals share a common male ancestor and 2) how many generations back that common ancestor lived. I am looking for an individual who is: 1) male, 2) surname is Blount/Blunt, 3) has documented lineage to the earliest Blounts of southeastern Virginia and 4) is willing to take a Y-DNA test to compare to my test. My knowledge about DNA testing is somewhat limited, so we need to make sure we better understand what information likely can be derived from any test before committing to be tested. Please check the following website for excellent definitions on the type of tests that are available: http://www.familytreedna.com/description.html Notify Administrator about this message?
