Not only did Lettice Knollys marry as her third husband Sir Christopher Blount, her daughter Penelope Devereux (the "Stella" of Sir Phillip Sidney's love poetry) left her husband Lord Rich to live with Sir Charles Blount, Lord Mountjoy, who was older brother to Sir Christopher. Mother and daughter thus became sisters in law.
Sir Christopher was executed in 1601 for his involvement in his stepson Essex's rebellion against Queen Elizabeth. Sir Charles was promoted at the same time, to take over the conquest of Ireland that Essex his brother in law had abandoned and bungled.
Penelope and Charles, Lord Mountjoy, had 5 or 6 illegitimate children. When they were finally able to marry (Lord Rich divorced Penelope for adultery--a bit tardily, methinks) Penelope stopped having children, so the Lord Mountjoy title died out with Charles. Some of their illegitimates later got titles of their own however. One of these was Mountjoy Blount.
