On message 1511 I stated that the Bishop's Transcripts for Bayton for four marriages of Blount ladies record them as being married. I was wrong, but I am in the good company of FamilySearch. Croke gives the children of Sir Walter Blount of Sodington, first baronet, as having seven sons and four daughters. His sons were: 1. Sir George Blount who married Mary the daughter of Richard Kirkham of Blackdown, Devonshire. 2. John, Lt-Col in King Charles II's own regiment. 3. William, a Major in the Queen's regiment. 4. Peter, a Captain at the Battle of Worcester. 5. Walter, died unmarried. 6. Thomas, died unmaried. 7. Edward, died unmarried. 1. Elizabeth, married Henry Englefield. 2. Frances, married Andrew Windsor, Esq., 3. Ann, married James Anderton, Esq., 4. Eleanor, married 1. Robert Knightly, 2. Walter Aston The Bishop's Transcripts give the title of what looks like "Mrs." to Elizabeth, Frances and Elinor Blount and Mary Kirkham, which some of the researchers for FamilySearch and I took at face value. I think that the clerk or rector must have intended writing "Mistress" in respect of the social status of Sir Walter's daughters. Gillian. Notify Administrator about this message?
