Hi, Barb;
Pretty sure Georg Conrad Bloss (that last letter is actually an ess-tset, a letter that existed in German but not in English) and his wife Magdalene came from Mannheim. They arrived in Philadelphia in 1749, or possible 1748 (don't have my source in front of me) on a ship called Lydia out of Rotterdam.
I have met a Bloss from Germany (second or third generation - emigrated around 1900)whose family was from a small town near Stuttgart. This fellow still had cousins there and said the area was all full of Blosses. Oddly enough, he was the spit and image of any one of my uncles, and would have vanished immediately in any gathering of my own Bloss clan! Where is Langenselwhatever?
Pam
