Well where to begin?
I lived with my family at 6 Summit Way and Colin would often stop by before or after school. We usually sat together in the 3rd form classroom, I have forgotten the instructor's name although I can picture his face. Colin had a marvelous habit of disrupting the class by positioning his metal ruler at the very edge of his desk so that it would crash to the floor as he wrote lessons; he would then apologize profusely and then immediately do it again until the instructor was at his/her wit's end. For some reason, he was hooked on the 'Stones song "Congratulations" and sang it all the time. I believe he had a crush on a very cute girl called Hayley, or Heather, something very much like that. My family invited Colin to stay for dinner one night, and being American, we had corn on the table (maize?). I'm afraid we embarrased him a bit because he had never heard of or seen corn before - inconceivable to us- and he had to ask "what is corn?" to much snickering from we three boys (brothers Marty, Leonard, and myself). Colin had a sister whose name escapes me - it's been 41 years at least, but I think I only visited once at his place...We wrote letters for a few years and then faded out. The last thing I remember was the Black and Decker Colin got for Christmas one year... It's been a l-o-n-g time. I just remember being grateful for a friend in a strange land, and enjoyed Colin's friendship, and sense of humour. I still feel a little pain at having to leave London and going back home; it was obvious that it was very painful for Colin, and at this great distance and great length of time later, I would still like to apologize for having to do so. At 14, it was impossible to deal with separation, so I was just silent.
My life turned out fairly normal, I suppose, always wondered how Colin fared, and still think often about my London year, and Colin who was a large part of it.
Anyway, I hope that's enough to go on, and I'm sure there will be 10,000 more things once the memory wakes up from its slumber.
Colin?
