The book The Bloodgood Genealogy shows that his father was Hendricke Bloetgoet. It suggests that he came to Holland approx. 1590 and may have come to Amsterdam from the South Netherland Provinces which later became German Belgium. At the time the majority of settlers were Calvinists which had been subject to religious persecution since 1533.
