Bally Kilty is in Co. Clare, or was until some time ago. There is no record of it as of 1976, last time I was there. Col. Thomas Blood's daggers are in the Tower of London, and I have a postcard with them on it. He is a far better romantic character than Sabatini's pirate. Charles II actually rewarded him with lands in Ireland for his botched attempt to steal the crown jewels, which haven't been the same since. He sawed the sceptre in half and crushed the imperial crown. I don't know what ol' Charlie was thinking, but was quite taken with the rogue.
