Marilyn,

Re: James Blood Sr. of Concord

The Roger Harris Book (page 143) describes James Blood as a sergeant (in the militia?) and a yeoman. He was born in 1605 or 1606 in England (requested dispensation from military training on Jan 30 1660 aged 55 years and deposed before court in 1670 aged 64years). Your date for his birth is thus confirmed.
He was a cordwayner (shoemaker) by trade (source: marriage licence) and would have served an apprenticeship (typically from 14 to 21 years of age).
Married: To Ellen Harrison, February 7 1630/1.
Listed as a Burgess of Nottingham in 1632.
Involved in a fracas in Church in 1635 when he was apparently wrongly arrested by two men "in time of divine service". When the case came before the Church Court both men were excommunicated, although one of them was later absolved.
Children: James Jr. born 1632, possibly in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire and Mary born 1640? in Concord, MA.
Emigrated to Massachusetts ca 1638?
Very unlikely the father of Richard Blood as if Richard was born in 1617 (source of data?) he would have only been 12 at the time.

My mother was born in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, England and I am related to the Bloods through her. Just like your family they always claimed a relationship to Colonel Thomas Blood, the crown jewel thief.
