Captain Blood is completely fictitious character created by Rafael Sabatini and made famous by the 1935 movie with Errol Flynn. Colonel Thomas Blood was a real life person who kidnapped Dukes, stole the Crown Jewels, and, when facing execution, convinced King Charles to spare his life, give him a pension, return his land, and hire him to do covert espionage.
