Hi, My ancestor was a convict, Elizabeth Benson, assigned to Thomas and Christiana Blomfield when they were - I'm told - living at Government Cottage in Maitland. They sent Elizabeth away when she had an illegitimate child. The name given as the father on the child's Christening Certificate is John Blaxland. I'm looking for Blomfield correspondence that may indicate whether John Marquet Blaxland stayed with them while Elizabeth was still with them. Blaxland found a route from Windsor to Wallis Plains in late 1824. http://www.convicttrail.org/history.php?id=a2b7 The large map at http://www.jenwilletts.com/ shows Blomfield held property at Wallis Plains on the Hunter. Blaxland also held land in Maitland. I have been told by a researcher that he was awarded land as a reward for marking the route north from Windsor but I am yet to find documentation for this. The baby was born in 1826. I'm waiting on a copy of the birth certificate to ascertain the date. Any help regarding Blomfield correspondence and the dates/location of the residence at Maitland would be great. Thanks! Margot Grouse Notify Administrator about this message?
