Been awhile - I just received some new information, which I'm passing along.
My Bernhard BLOME was christened in Feb 1846 in Horn, Lippe, Germany (now part of Nordrhein-Westphalia). His parents were Johann BLOME and Wilhelmina BIESEMEIER. (source: private communication, verified using familysearch.org)
Apparently, the reason he and his wife Maria SCHEFFMAN (SCHIFFMANN) lived in Lena, Stephenson county, Illinois was that several of his mother's brothers had settled there earlier.
Do you know what part of Germany your BLOMEs came from?
