Thanks for your message Gary. The short story is that I screwed up.There were two sets of Blockers that came to Texas in the 1850-1880 timeline and I chose the wrong ones when I posted these messages. Both branches had children named John and William and initially threw me off.Someone gave me the Blockers of America info that had my branch.Combined with death certificates and civil war pension applications, the pieces all came together.
My line turned out to be (youngest to oldest)
John Griffin Blocker (John G)
James Robert Blocker (J.R.) / Eliza Francis "Fanny" Jordan
Edward Robert Monroe Blocker / Sarah Cole
Michael Blocker IV / Rosanna Griffin
Michael Blocker III / Ann Loftin
Michael Blocker II / Nancy
Michael Blocker I
Where I had gotten confused was that Edward Robert Monroe Blocker came to Texas after the Civil War with three sons (John Cole, William Griffin and James Robert). The initials show up in census and other documents.
When I initially picked up on JR and William Blocker, I went backwards through Ab Blocker. After trying to figure out how to get from Ab's J.R. Blocker to me, I realized I was wrong. In any case, Ab Sr and the sons have some kind of history in Texas! There are some great writeups if you search for them via google books.I also have pdfs of a "Special Ranger" document from the State of Texas and a "Frontier Ranger" document on Ab should you not have them already.
Thanks again for the follow up.
