The Soldiers and Sailors System of the National Park Service( http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ ) lists the following possiblities in Confederate service:
J.C. Blizzard - 3rd Reg. Missouri Infantry
James William Calhoun Blizzard - 3rd Reg. Missouri Infantry (Posssibly a brother, cousin, father or son - or maybe the same individual)
John Blizzard - 3rd Reg. Confederate Cavalry (Howard's)
Joseph Blizzard - 61st Reg. North Carolina Infantry.
Do you know his first name?If one of these seems to fit, you may order service records from the National Archives:http://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/military/civil_war_records.htmlhttp://www.archives.gov/research_room/genealogy/military/civil_war_records.html
You might also go to the following message boards and post an inquiry:

Since he most likely died in Tennessee, you should also check with the state to see if he or his widow applied for a pension.Sorry, do not know how to contact them, but someone on this board likely does.
Good Luck
