Betty,
Jacob (Noah Jacob) was much older than Margaret, and Margaret was much older than most woman are at the time of her first marriage, if it was her first. A lot of the marriage records that would help to identify Margaret are missing and it is entirely possible that she had been previously married to a Caswell.I would love to know the source for the date of the marriage between Jacob and Margaret. I have a few reasons for believing that Margaret was a Sexton by birth. When I first started my research on William G. Sexton (b. 1808, Green Co., KY.), I was unable to identify two of his daughters after abt. 1860. Then I found the following families living next door to each other in the 1870 Hart Co., KY. census, p. 393A:
Jacob Blissett50KYDwelling #229; Family #223
Margaret Blissett42KY
Henrietta Blissett2KY
George W. Blissett1KY
John Suddeth24KYDwelling #230; Family #224
Thurlissa J. Suddeth22KY
Josephine Suddeth3KY
Ardeline A. Suddeth1KY
Mary H. Suddith8/12KYBorn in October
I have since proven that Thurlissa or Teresa Suddeth is the daughter of William G. Sexton, but have not been able, except by the following circumstantial evidence,to prove that Margaret was a Sexton:
[1] William G. Sexton did have daughters named Margaret and Teresa whose ages roughly match those of Margaret Blissett and Thurlissa Suddeth.
[2] Noah Jacob Blissett was married to a woman named Margaret according to the 1870 census and next door to him in that census is John Suddith and wife Thurlissa Sexton.
[3] William G. Sexton and George Washington Sexton, his son, have moved from Metcalfe Co., KY. to Hart Co., KY. by the time of the 1870 census.
[4] Jacob Blissett was in Sangamon Co., IL. before the 1880 census, moving to the same area at about the same time as many descendants of William G. Sexton.
[5] Jacob and Margaret are both buried in Woodwreath Cem., sangamon Co., IL. as are many of the descendants of William G. Sexton.
[6] A note from a relative stating that Susie B. Blissett (a granddaughter of Jacob Blissett) and Emanuel Frank Sexton (a great grandson of William G. Sexton)who married abt 1925 in Sangamon Co. were "cousins".
I'll have to check out this Caswell lead some more as I know that the Caswell, Sexton, Blissett, Priddy and a few other families were all close together in the Priceville area.
Thanks for your help.
