Michael, your post addresses three of the Anson Co., NC names with which a George MARTIN is linked in various records. For instance: George MARTIN was a witness to a deed in which William Blewet and Edmund Cartledge of Anson Co. sold land to John Husbands on 3 Oct 1758. John LONG was the other witness. George MARTIN and Susannah, his wife, sold land to Sabey [Eucebeus] STONE on 12 December 1767. John CRAWFORD and Mary SELVEY were the witnesses. Other neighbors of George MARTIN were John COLE, William HUNTER and Thomas MASON. I have tracked George MARTIN into South Carolina where he received a land grant on Little Black Creek and Deep Creek, waters of Peedee River, on 3 Aug 1774. After that the record becomes less certain. Also, I have collected an extensive record on the movements of Eucebeus STONE in South Carolina and am beginning to research the other names mentioned above. I believe this George MARTIN and Susannah, his wife, are the parents of two men, Gabriel and Zachariah MARTIN, who arrived in Spanish ruled Louisiana in about Jun 1779, settled and married at Opelousas Post and later moved on to Rapides Post, in the case of Gabriel, and Natchitoches Post, in Zachariah's case. Zachariah is my 4G grandfather. He was killed by Osage Indians in Sep 1791 leaving five small children the youngest of which, Zachariah, one year old at the time, is my 3G grandfather. The record which links these two men to North Carolina and George and Susannah is the baptism records for six children of Gabriel MARTIN and his wife, Mary NUGENT. All the children were baptised on the same day, 1 Nov 1796. This example is for the eldest child: St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; Mansura, Avoyelles Parish, LA; Church Registry Bk. 1, p. 14-17; 1 Nov 1796. Book 1, Page 14, No. 28. Martin, Margarita: b. 12 Oct. 1781, Rapides dau. of Gabriel Martin & Maria Nuchen, n/o North Carolina. Bapt: 1 Nov. 1796-deSedella. Grandchild of: Jorge Martin & Susana Martin; and Mathes Nuchen [Matthew NUGENT] & Isabel Macbray (sic). What I am seeking is evidence of George MARTIN's origins and a clue to Susannah's maiden name. If during your research you have found any other records in which George MARTIN is associated with any of these other families, I would really appreciate hearing of it.
