E-mail discussion with Dr. Crouch...Re. Bluet & Nesta
Hello everyone,
Its been a while since I posted anything, I've been deep into my medieval Bluet/Bloet research. In the course of that research I read Dr. Crouch's great work on William Marshal, in which he makes much to do about the very early Bloets. He makes mention of the marriage between Ralf Bloet and the welsh princess Nesta, daughter of Iorwerth ab Owain.I wanted more information than he made mention of, so I opened discussion about the Bloets with him.Below is his e-mail to me on my request for source reference to the marriage between Ralf and Nesta, and also the verification if any that King Henry II was indeed Morgan's father.

Hi Karen
The principal reference to the marriage is a published source: Annales
Dunelmenses' in, Durham Annals and Documents of the Thirteenth Century, ed. F.
Barlow (Surtees Society, clv, 1945) pp. 1-2.Talking of Morgan Bloet, bishop
elect of Durham, '... Henricus rex pater Iohannis regis genuerat eum de uxore
cuiusdam militis Anglie dicti Radulfi Bloet.'(King Henry, the father of King
John, engendered [Morgan] on the wife of a certain English knight, Ralph
Bloet)
That the wife of Ralph was Nest ferch Iorwerth ab Owain is evident from the
evidence of medieval Welsh genealogical records: see P.C. Bartrum, Welsh
Genealogies, 400-1400 (8 vols, Aberystwyth, 1983), Rhydderch ap Iestyn, no. 1,
which attests to her place in the Caerleon family. Nest wife of Ralph Bloet
sought lands in Caerleon against Hywel son of Iorwerth (her brother) Curia
Regis Rolls, i, pp 382, 393, 397.
There is an article on her in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
(Oxford, 2004).
Hope that is of use.
