Addendum to previous posting:
John attended public schools in Baltimore for 4 years, and then laid aside his text books in order to provide for himself as an office boy.Later he learned the carpenter's trade, which he energetically followed for many years.Through three decades he continued working along those lines. Then, with capitol acquired from this trade, he turned his attention to merchandising, and had one of the leading general merchandise stores in Fort Branch,(IN) "carrying a stock valued at $2500.00"He married Miss Letitia Epperson, daughter of William H. Epperson, and they were parents of nine children: George W., Octavia, Margaret, John F., Herbert, Renold, Milton, Agnes and Charles.
Sophia came to Gibson County in 1858, and married Louis Laib in 1861.They had ten children:Sophia, Rose, Margaret, Louis (who married Stella Bates, my mother's mother), John, Joseph, Jake, Will, Ed and Nell.
Possibly you already have this information, so I won't continue with birth dates, etc. at this point.I do have a little further information dealing with their offspring, but nothing further on the parents of Sophia.
Would appreciate learning of further leads you may come across. Thanks and good luck.
