Thanks for the quick response!
I have a copy of a page from the Playfoot family Bible and it reads as follows:

this Bible was presented to
Alice Playforth(alt for Playfoot) in Rememberance
of her mother ???(word that I can't decipher-looks like hou)
died February 27th 1875.

Jane Blenkinsop
Swine Sunday
School 1859
I know that George Arthur Playfoot married a lady called Alice(1901 census) born 1863(family bible). They had daughters Jane Elizabeth and Alice May +other children.
My theory,such as it is, is that this Bible was given to Jane on the occasion of her marriage (so she could have been Earnshaw at birth!!!)/birth of 1st child and then was presented to Alice similarly. This is obviously very tentative and I have no real evidence.
