Hi, Beverley and Mike. I googled a thread that you had going in 2002.
I am trying to track down details of an ancestor, Henry Bleackley. He was ?the brother of John Bleackley, and together they ran a bleaching company in Prestwich, Manchester. (As it happens I own a metal deedbox of his.) My descent is through his "daughter" Sarah, who married Matthew Lodge in Dec. 1856.
There are various strange features. The only Sarah Bleackley I can find whose age fits was b. 1831, the illegitimate daughter of a Maria Bleackley. Was Sarah actually Henry's grand-daughter?
I cannot find any reference to Henry in any census from 1841 onwards, so either he was a refusnik or he always contrived to be abroad at Census time.
Does Henry Bleackley ring any bells?
