This is a good source for Duplin Blanton records:

The major discrepancy between John of Duplin and John of Red River is the age reported for the latter on a military roll. He was said to be 75 in 1836, making him born 1760-1761. If he were in Duplin and the age reported correctly, he should have appeared on the Duplin tax lists starting about 1782. I have copies of the 1783, 1786, 1787 and 1788 lists, but no John, Jr. appears on them, at least by name. However, it is possible that John, Sr. was exempt by age and reported John, Jr. on his list. Unfortunately, the critical lists from the 1790s have not been microfilmed.
There are supposed to be other tax lists and documents that have not been microfilmed in boxes at the NC State Archives, so it might be worthwhile to hire someone to search there.
It is also possible that some of the children of John, Sr. were in pre-1800 Sampson or New Hanover County records. They lived near both borders.
