Richard,
From a chancery court case in Essex county, we know that the maiden name of Charles' wife was Letitia Tate (various spellings). Since she used Letitia in the 1820 census, Charlotte, in his will, was presumably a second name. Her birth date recorded in the case was 16 Aug 1758.
From a case in Lunenburg, we know that Jane C. Blanton Crenshaw was the widow of John Blanton. Since Jane (as Jincey)appears on the 1800 tax list, he must have died before then.Since Jane C. Blanton, and no Charlotte Blanton, was mentioned in her father's estate settlement, the daughter mentioned in his will must have been Jane Charlotte, instead of two different daughters. I found two transcriptions that had Jane and Charlotte as different daughters.
It seems likely that John was Joshua's son. Circumstantial evidence points to a Prince Edward origin for him. In 1784 John Blanton of PE sold to a DeGraffenreidt (another PE name)a slave and a John Blanton was listed on the PE tax lists, but disappears in 1785. In 1787 John Blanton was on Lunenburg's tax lists. Jane remarried to a Crenshaw, the maiden name of Joshua's wife, Lucy.
The only other John in PE was Richard's. However, although Richard's will indicates he had away when the will was written, he was still living in 1804. He signed a deed to sell land inherited from his father.
Joshua's John did not show up in KY with him. Joshua also left him only a nominal sum (5 shillings). This may have been due to an earlier gift of his share or an estrangement, possibility the result of not migrating with the family.
