Just a follow up on my ref that George Washington
described Wm Blanton as"Complexion: Brown, Large good
limbs, Black hair". The Index to the Manuscripts of
General George Washington, the great collection of
letters and papers now in the Library of Congress shows
the name of William Blanton on pages 49, 67, 141, 152
and 164.Page 49, in George's own handwriting, gives
the above description.
I still don't know which William was being described.
But I was glad that I had my source okay.
Your's and Robert's cautions about using old DAR app's
is appreciated.But I didn't think 1969 was old.I
remember DAR used to require that family written records
had to be 50 years old??? Sure don't remember the source
of that but it stuck with me.
And I agree with Robert that old bio's authors did embellish. I use William Conrad's 1901 bio of Wilson Blanton, as my source that William Blanton was father of Jeremiah.
I realize that's not very good source info. I will put
caution notes in my forthcoming book to that effect.
But from many years of research on many ancestors, I
have a good feeling that the four Blanton brother's father
was named William Blanton.
And one or more William Blantons may have been in the Military, and one or more may have served in the F&I war, but did such service extend into the Rev War? Maybe so.Old soldiers always got their weapons out when new conflicts occured. If they could? The William Blanton with the thigh wound might not have been able.
Thanks again for taking of your time to read my messages
and offer advice...I'm hoping to learn more. Old dogs
can learn new tricks. Incidently, I sure don't look like
Wm Blanton...my hair is totally white, and I'm certainly
not handsome. Kind of scare myself each morning when I
look in the mirror.
I have a son that is 6'2" tall dark and handsome..looks like John John Kennedy (did). And a picture of my Stephen F. Blanton in his confederate uniform with cutlass, is
probably one of the most handsome men I've ever seen,
reminds me of Rex Harrison, (old movie star you never
heard of) I've talked too much....good bye and good hunting.
