There were two William Blantons in that part of what is now West Virginia around the turn of the century. The one who was married to Christina Gwin owned 350 acres from Christina's father in the North part of Monroe Co. near Nickell's Mill. It was right on the Southern border of what is now Greenbriar Co. The Other William started out with 400 acres near the sinks, just East of Union, WV on Highway 3 which runs towards Keenan. His wife was Tipsy or something. I don't have the census in front of me right now but he is the one who had the son John and daughters who married a Henderson, a Wiseman and I don't remember who the other daughter married. The marriage records are in Lewisburg, the county seat. This is the William who was on the Monroe Co. census in 1800 & 1810, as well as I can remember and then he took what was left of the family and moved to Kentucky. I never saw a census for the other William, (the one married to Christina) so it is my supposition that Christina died following the sale of the 350 acres to William Patton. The deed states "and whereas the said Christenia (sic) cannot conveniently travel to our said court.. to make acknowledgement of said conveyance, ...certify to the court that she had relinquished her dower to the same..". I'm guessing that William moved elsewhere upon her death but he couldn't be my GGG grandfather since my GG was in S.C. on the 1790 Fairfield Co. census. He was a William too. He died intestate in 1820 at 48. I think what is now the North part of Monroe Co. was Greenbriar in the late 1700s. I don't remember when Monroe Co. was formed. Hope this is not too confusing. Grey BlantonGGgrandson of William & Elizabeth Blanton of Kershaw Co. S. C. and later, Harris Co., Ga.
