All the information I have found came from Ancestry.com. Mostly census records and I did find Alex's death certificate. The name was misspelled but it was him.
Elix Zander Blankenship
Elizabeth was their daughter, mother of my grandfather. She was married to Leroy Laws. They were living with her parents in 1880. There is no record of Elizabeth and Leroy after 1880 but their children, my great uncle, was living with the Blankenships and my grandfather was staying with Alex's daughter Sarah Hamby in 1900.
I believe that Elizabeth and Leroy both died when the boys were babies. Both my grandfather's and his brother Leroy's death certificates list Adeline Blankenship(Alex's wife) as their mother. She must have been the only mother they knew.
I'd love more information about Harrison Blankenship. Was he married more than once and did he live in Virginia? I'd like to verify some information I got from census records.
