Frances Carpenter MARY WILHITE (23) [daughter of Adam Wilhite and wife Catherine Broyles (4)] (b.c. 1735-1740;d. 1830 Madison Co., VA) She married c. 1755-1756 William Carpenter (b.c. 1730-1735 Culpeper Co., VA. ;d. 1810 Madison Co., VA) who is said to have served in the Revolution. Garr says he was a minister but this is clearly an error inasmuch as his son, also named William, was a minister. [{SLB} Keith may be in error in that it is entirely possible that both William Sr. and Jr. were ministers. Gaar states that both Williams were soldiers in the revolution, were present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, and each was for many years pastor of the "Old Lutheran Church" (Hebron?) in Madison Co., VA. Anna Carpenter CATHERINE BROYLES (4) [daughter of John Broyles (1)] married Adam Wilhite (Wilhoit and otherwise) about 1740, the son of Michael Willheit who died in Orange Co. in 1746. Between the descendants of Michael Willheit and John Broyles (1) there have been numerous marriages. Adam Wilhite made will in Culpeper Co., March 30, 1763, probated July 21, 1763. He makes bequest to wife Catherine. To son George he leaves 100 acres of land to be laid off lengthways. To sons John and Michael, he leaves the other 200 acres to be laid off by a cross line. This sounds much as if he owned three quarters of a 400 acre tract, which tract as I have shown above I believe was the land of John Broyles (1). He signed his name as Adam Wilhoit. The will was witnessed by John Wayland (his mark), William Eastham, and Jacob Broil (his mark). This Jacob Broil must have been Jacob Broyles, Jr. for he was present at the probate (July 21, 1763) and the older Jacob had died before this time. Adam Broyle and Nicholas Broil (the two spellings almost side by side) were the executors. Issue 23.i. Mary Wilhite 24.ii. John Wilhite 25.iii. Michael Wilhite 26.iv. Elizabeth Wilhite 27.v.
