James Bland of Bulloch Co GA

  of 2960

Have recently found info about this Confederate soldier for anyone who may be interested. He was in 5th GA Cavalry, Company E. My source had him in the Lorings Division Hospital at Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi June 24-Sept 1, 1863. (Does anyone know why he was there?) He surrendered at Greensboro NC April 26, 1865.

5th Calvary GA regiment was formed in Jan 1863 by consolidating 1st & 2nd GA cavalry battalions which had served along the GA coast. Men were from Effingham, Screven, Liberty, Bulloch, Lamar, and McIntosh counties. The 5th joined Wheelers Calvary corps and and participated in the Atlanta campaig, the defense of Savannah, and the campaign of the Carolinas. The 5th later surrendered with the army of Tennessee 4/26/1865.

James father, Daniel Bland would have been in his 40's during the War, so I am assuming he also was a confederate soldier. Does anyone have any info on him?
