I did post my interests on this site last year, but without success- hopefully I will have more luck this year. The earliest name I have is William Bland c1776-1849 who was born in Yorkshire and became the miller in Aldbrough. The parish name is Stanwick St John.He married Ann c1778-1859 who was born at Gilling in North Yorkshire . There are a large number of Will Blands marrying Anns in North Yorkshire around 1779-1800, but none of the ones I have checked so far were born in Gilling- so that is my first problem. Their children [all baptised in Aldbrough / Stanwick] were Mary James 1801, William 1802 [he married Mary Richmond in 1826 and became a miller at Newsham], Hannah 1804 [married James Agilvie in 1827], Elizabeth Eleanor 1805?[who died in infancy], Ann 1807-1869 - my gt gt grandmother[she married William Coates {1793-1857} in 1830 and eventually moved to County Durham], Isabella 1808, Eleanor 1809 [married Robert Pottage 1836], Elizabeth 1811-1836, Maria 1814-1850, Jane 1816, James 1818 [who married Isabella], Eliza 1822-1836 I have also thought that William's father was likely to be called James. A Mary Bland, wife of James, was buried in Aldbrough in 1807 and I have suspected that they might be William's parents. If you or others on the list recognise these names, please contact me. I also note that you have looked at Southside, Co. Durham. Another ancestor of mine, Ellen/Eleanor Dawson was living in Southside when she married in Dec 1841. Her father was John D. I have not managed to find her on the 1841 census. Have you come across her? Notify Administrator about this message?
