My husband's gg gm was Elizabeth Ann Bland, b 3-9-1800 in either NC or SC. Her parents were William Bland and Susanah Cochran. The family story is that Susanah died after the birth of 4 children and William went back to sea and was never heard from again. The 4 children were raised by the Cochran grandparents. Elizabeth married James McGrath Hardy in 1820. Their eldest child was born in Augusta, GA and shortly after her death at an early age, the family moved to Chambers Co., AL. It is also said in the family that the grandfather Cochran was a Rev. Soldier. I have no proof of this and do not even know his given name.
Any help you can give on William Bland will be appreciated greatly.
