EXPLOSION at ANTIOCH -- Vallejo ‘Chronicle’ --
Mr. WEST, who has just returned from Antioch, gives an account of the explosion on Monday afternoon on the ferry steamer Antioch, plying between that place and Collinsville.

It appears that the top of the steam dram blew off, demolishing the pilot house and scalding Mr. BLANCHARD and a Chinaman, who were within a few feet of the boiler and directly in the course of the escaping steam. The skin of these 2 men was so thoroughly boiled that it came off in strips. The Chinaman also had a leg broken, but the inhumanity of the Antioch physician would not permit him to set the dislocation without a fee, and the suffering fellow was sent to San Francisco.

BLANCHARD died yesterday morning. He was a resident of Antioch and a most respected citizen. The Chinaman subsequently died. Both of the men scalded were passengers.

A HUMAN DOCTOR -- Dr. HOWARD, the resident physician at Antioch, being absent at the time, a Somerville doctor was called upon to treat the Chinaman injured at the Antioch explosion. The latter person asked a fee of $50. This correction is due to Dr. HOWARD, who is a very humane man. In absence of the fee, the Doctor declined to set the Chinaman’s leg. He was therefore sent to San Francisco and died on the way.
