Capt. Blanchard was a Massachusetts native who was working for the railroad in northern Pennsylvania at the outbreak of the Civil War. He helped recruit what became Company I of the famous Pennsylvania Bucktail Regiment and became its captain. Shot through both legs at Harrisonburg, Virginia in June 1862, he later resigned his commission due to the effects of those injuries. Any first-hand info regarding Capt. Blanchard will be appreciated.
