Shirley:This is a long shot, but the appearance of Willis Blalock in the same household as Isham (not Blalock in your census list), brings to mind two names from my research on the Blalocks in Johnson County (current Wake County) from about 1747 through the early 1800's. Willis is mentioned several times and then he no longer is in Wake County in the early 1800's. Could this be his son Willis?Willis and Isham were associated with the elder Millington Blalock who came to Johnson Co., NC with his brother John Blalock and his wife Sarah from Hanover/Louisa Co., VA. They had bought land in Brunswick Co. VA on the border of N.C. just above Granville Co.,and lived there for a few years (very few notes on them from the early 1740's, but sold it shortly after they bought it, and the deed book states "Millington Blalock of Johnson Co." sold this land in 1747. John was already in Johnson Co. (Wake) by 1752. John left northern Wake Co., but Millington died there. His wife Mourning Blalock has several transactions with Willis and Isham and they had a brother Charles. There was also a Buckner Blalock associated with Millington and Mourning. In the 1750's Lewis Blalock was listed as witness to deeds and sales of John and Sarah. Lewis was a chain carrier on some of John Blalock's deeds and sales. They both also left Wake Co. Millington's wife Mourning died in Wake in 1801. John Blalock and Millngton had many land transactions with the Rowlands, the Abbots and Sims families, and Millington cosigned many of the deeds.
After John and Sarah left, some of his land was sold by the Sheriff (not unusual as I am sure you know) and Millington cosigned the sale.
The John Blalock who applied for a Rev. War pension in 1832 in carter Co., TN at age 70 states he was born in Brunswick Co., VA that he enlisted in Brunswick Co. VA in 1778, and age age 36 he moved to Burke Co., N. for 15 mos., then moved to Carter Co. TN. His widow applied again in 1849 and stated she Polly Dorman married him in 1797 in Orange Co., NC, that the soldier (John Blalock) died 3/10/1846 and the record states she reapplied in 1855 in Yancey Co., NC.
I mention this John Blalock as that should separate him from the many Johns.
Also, another John who lived in Granville Co in the late 1700's and was equated with the Hudspeths in Granville Co. NC moved to Surry Co., NC and there is a note in the huge deed books in Granville Co. that says just that when he sold some land. His wife was named Mary.
